Why foster?

Why foster?

Many people are wary of fostering as they worry that they won't be able to say goodbye to dogs that they have fallen in love with. While this is completely understandable, Emily, a foster carer with Greyhound Adoptions WA explains why, for her, saying goodbye can actually be such a rewarding experience.

“Shortly after adopting our greyhound boy, Soda, we wanted to open our home to greyhounds in need of fostering. Over the span of a year, we were lucky enough to foster 10 beautiful greyhounds.

When people say they couldn’t foster because they’d adopt all the fosters, we understand! We could have easily adopted every single foster which came through our door. However, no feeling compares to watching a perfect adoptive family fall deeply in love with your foster. Saying goodbye to your newly adopted foster greyhound is equally heartbreaking as it is rewarding, knowing they’ll only know love for the rest of their life as part of a loving family.

Fostering has been the single most important thing we have ever done; it led us to gifting so many people a new member of their family, “foster failing” our two greyhound girls (Poppy and Belle), and making life-long friendships with many of our fosters’ adoptive families.

We absolutely adore the dedicated volunteers at Greyhound Adoptions WA. Without these volunteers working tirelessly behind the scenes, so many greyhounds would never be lucky enough to find a home of their own. Greyhound rehoming groups in every state need foster carers so they can keep rescuing. Greyhound Adoptions WA doesn’t have kennel facilities so foster carers are critical. Please consider fostering a greyhound.”

Thank you for sharing your experience Emily!
