We're funding six desexing programs!

Preventative programs in the rescue community are becoming more and more important as increasing numbers of puppies and dogs are being surrendered to pounds and rescue organisations all around the country.

One way to counter the seemingly never ending flow of dogs needing rescue is by preventing accidental and unwanted litters of puppies through desexing. That’s why, together with the Petbarn Foundation, we’re proud to be donating $60,000 across six different rescue groups for their subsidized or free desexing programs with the aim of desexing over 200 dogs.

We’ll be working with Friends of the Pound – Tweed Heads (NSW), Australian Animal Protection Society (VIC), Bunbury Animal Rescue Rehome and Care (WA), Desexing Assistance & Community Support Inc (NT), Rainbow Paws Program (ACT), and Happy Tails Animal Rescue (QLD).

Due to overwhelming requests for help with unwanted litters of puppies, these groups have done extensive research and set up thorough processes to manage these programs in their communities.

Each will run their programs slightly differently based on their experience and their particular community needs, and we’ll be sharing some more information about each program and how you can get involved on our social media over the next couple of months.

By providing the opportunity for people to desex their dog, who may not have the means currently to do so, we hope to stop unwanted litters and reduce the strain on already stretched resources at rescue groups and pounds. This will in turn help reduce the risk of dogs already at full pounds being euthanised.

Sterilisation can also prevent health issues including reproductive cancers, as well as problem behaviours reducing the likelihood of surrender.

By desexing 200 dogs we are potentially preventing over 1,000 puppies needing rescue support in the first generation alone.

A huge thank you to the rescue groups and vets involved for coordinating and running such important projects, we are very proud to be able to support you!
