From Farm to Forever: Sassy our First Adoption in New Zealand!

We believe every pet deserves a loving home and every family deserves the joy of finding their perfect companion.

That’s why we launched SavourLife Pet Adoptions in New Zealand.

To give families one simple, trusted place to find that special someone and give rescue pets the second chance they deserve.

And sometimes, those connections don’t just change a pet’s life they create a ripple effect. Sassy’s story is one of those moments: a journey from survival to belonging, and a beautiful reminder of the difference adoption can make.

Sassy was born around the 5th of November 2025 on a farm, where life was anything but gentle.

She was first spotted being carried across the yard in her mum’s mouth, disappearing into a haybarn small, fragile, and already learning to survive.
On New Year’s Eve, Sassy’s journey changed. She was safely trapped and brought to Kitty Haven as a tiny, spitting, hissing ball of fur who wanted nothing to do with people.
Over the following days, her siblings were rescued too, and weeks later their mum was desexed and returned to the farm, breaking the cycle for future litters.
Sassy, however, stayed.
With time, patience and care, she began to realise that people weren’t so scary after all. They brought food, treats, gentle hands and warm beds. Slowly, her walls came down and her personality began to shine.

Then came a moment of perfect timing. After hearing a SavourLife ad on the radio, and inspired by a friend who had recently adopted, Sassy’s future family made a spur‑of‑the‑moment decision. They already had a 15‑year‑old cat, Nera, who had lost her companion a few years earlier and it felt like the right time.

They visited the SavourLife Pet Adoptions site and adopted the very next day.
Sassy became the first cat and the first pet adopted through SavourLife Pet Adoptions in New Zealand! 🎉

In her new home, Sassy became Sushi, named for her beautiful tortoiseshell colouring. She’s made herself right at home, racing around with the kids, sleeping wherever she pleases (usually on the bed or her cat tower), and slowly building a relationship with Nera, one day at a time.

Once a wild kitten, Sushi is now friendly, playful and growing more confident every day, proof that adoption truly changes lives.
