At the start of the year, we announced that we had committed $200,000 to a targeted support fund for essential veterinary care which will help individuals and families keep their pets healthy and by their side — especially during times of hardship.
Animal Welfare League QLD operates a local Community Vet Clinic committed to never turning away a sick or suffering animal due to an owner's inability to pay for veterinary treatment.
Their goal is to keep pets with their families and avoid unnecessary euthanasia or surrender by offering repayment options for emergency veterinary treatment and charitable support for those experiencing financial hardship.

Throughout the first 3 months of the program, with $50,000 funding from SavourLife, the AWLQ Community Vet Clinic has supported 75 cases of dogs needing emergency or urgent vet care in instances where their families were not able to afford the critical care and they were at risk of surrender.
The cases varied in all shapes and sizes from tick paralysis, parvo virus, fracture repairs, and gastrointestinal obstructions and critical illness to snake evenomation, with most of these carrying a sizeable fee from a normal veterinary service.
With all financial options exhausted and nowhere else to turn the AWLQ Community Vet Clinic was there to help them give the lifesaving care their dog desperately needed to survive and go home with their families; preventing adding to the already overloaded shelter and local rescues, and keeping them with people who love them.

These families who presented their dog at the time of the request for support were experiencing homelessness, unemployment, illness, or in unstable living situations (e.g., domestic violence), and could manage daily expenses but lacked the means to cover emergency veterinary treatments.
This program directly addresses the root cause of dog surrender by providing resources to help dogs stay out of the shelter and at home where they belong.
Every time you choose SavourLife for your dog you are directly impacting dogs in need all over the country.
