Save-A-Dog Scheme (SADS) is a community-based, not-for-profit animal welfare organisation. Established in 1985, SADS has rescued and rehomed thousands of dogs and cats, offering a humane alternative to the killing of these unwanted animals. SADS led the introduction of the ‘no kill’ movement in Australia and, to this day, every dog and cat is rehomed where it is responsible to do so – every life is precious.
SADS takes in dogs and cats regardless of breed, size, age or health status. Some animals require significant medical and surgical treatment – so the costs can mount up. This commitment ensures that they have the best chance to live out their natural lifespan in new loving homes.
No matter how long it takes, or how much it costs, the team at Save-A-Dog Scheme works tirelessly to find homes for every animal able to be rehomed.
Save-A-Dog Scheme relies on donations for its continuing existence. Donations over $2 to Save-A-Dog Scheme are tax deductible and help with the general care of the animals and the maintenance of the organisation. One of the greatest expenses is for veterinary treatment for the animals, which includes the care of the sick and injured. These cats and dogs are nursed back to health rather than being destroyed as they may be elsewhere.
