Save-A-Dog Scheme (SADS) is a community-based, not-for-profit animal welfare organisation. Established in 1985, SADS has rescued and rehomed thousands of dogs and cats, offering a humane alternative to the killing of these unwanted animals. SADS led the introduction of the ‘no kill’ movement in Australia and, to this day, every dog and cat is rehomed where it is responsible to do so – every life is precious. SADS takes in dogs and cats regardless of breed, size, age or health status. Some animals require significant medical and surgical treatment – so the costs can mount up. This commitment ensures that they have the best chance to live out their natural lifespan in new loving homes. No matter how long it takes, or how much it costs, the team at Save-A-Dog Scheme works tirelessly to find homes for every animal able to be rehomed. Save-A-Dog Scheme relies on donations for its continuing existence. Donations over $2 to Save-A-Dog Scheme are tax deductible and help with the general care of the animals and the maintenance of the organisation. One of the greatest expenses is for veterinary treatment for the animals, which includes the care of the sick and injured. These cats and dogs are nursed back to health rather than being destroyed as they may be elsewhere.
Adoption Policy: StrictHow to Adopt We only rehome to people we've met, so please come and visit us in person — but ring us first on (03) 9824 7928 or 0418 389 810 to check that your favourite animal is still available. In some cases, we will ask for expressions of interest only via email, so as not to clog up our already very busy phone lines. In these cases, we clearly indicate this on the animal's profile. Our business hours are 9am-5pm and Animal Viewing hours 10am-4pm seven days/week. We're usually open regular business hours on Public Holidays but check our Contact page before each holiday to confirm. Our Approach to the Adoption Process Save-A-Dog Scheme operates as an adoption agency for our dogs and cats. We spend a substantial amount of time getting to know our animals and we try to match each animal's needs with the new home’s needs. When you visit us, you can be sure we'll do our best to work with you to help find the right companion animal for your home and lifestyle. Breeds, ages & names ... we do our best! We rarely have a reliable history of the animals that come to us. The suggested breeds and ages are stated in good faith and based on our experience over nearly 30 years. Similarly, most animals arrive without a name tag so they're given temporary names. Feel free to choose a new name as your dog or cat will adapt very quickly! Current Fees: Puppies 6 months or younger : $500 Adult dogs (over 6 months of age) : $450 Kittens 6 months of age or younger : $300 Adult cats and kittens over 6 months of age : $95 These basic fees may be modified for multiple adoptions or other circumstances. All of our animals are desexed, vaccinated, wormed, microchipped, vet-checked and assessed. http://saveadog.org.au/adoption-information/
