Scruffer Lovers is a medium-sized rescue dedicated to saving and rehoming pound dogs from regional and rural councils. We also assist with private surrenders, assessed on a case-by-case basis, with the goal of helping every dog find a loving, forever home. All of our dogs are desexed, vaccinated, and microchipped before adoption. Puppies under six months of age are adopted out on a desexing contract, with the procedure to be completed once they reach six months of age. At Scruffer Lovers, we pride ourselves on our high animal welfare standards. Every dog in our care is treated as an individual, with their wellbeing as our top priority. We make every effort to ensure dogs are well-socialised with people and other dogs before they are ready for adoption. We are an ethical rescue and will never compromise the welfare of an animal. Sadly, some dogs are so traumatised that they cannot be safely rehomed. In these cases, we must make difficult decisions based on quality of life, not quantity. While this is the hardest part of rescue, it’s important to remember the positive impact, we have helped countless dogs find safe, happy homes and brought joy to many families and individuals through adoption, companionship, and even assistance dogs. Scruffer Lovers is run entirely by volunteers. Our team gives their time freely, often outside of their full-time jobs, to care for the dogs and manage the administration needed to keep the rescue running.

🐾 Scruffer Lovers Inc. – Adoption Process 1. Adoption Application To begin, please click the relevant adoption link. This will automatically send an email to Scruffer Lovers Inc. You will receive an Adoption Application Form in reply. Once we receive your completed application, a team member will contact you via email or phone to: Discuss the dog in more detail Answer any questions you may have Arrange a meet and greet Please note: Submitting an application does not place you under any obligation to adopt, nor does it guarantee adoption of that particular dog. 2. Meet & Greet → Adoption → Trial Following the meet and greet, if both you and the dog are a suitable match, the adoption can proceed. All adoptions commence with a two-week trial period to ensure the placement is the right fit for both the dog and the adopter. 3. Trial Period All dog adoptions include a 14-day trial If the trial is not successful, the adoption fee will be refunded within 14 days, minus an administration fee 4. Aftercare & Ongoing Support We provide ongoing support and guidance throughout your dog’s transition into their new home and beyond. Our team is always available to help ensure a positive, smooth, and successful adoption experience. 5. Health & Wellbeing All dogs in our care receive comprehensive veterinary care prior to adoption, including: Desexed prior to adoption (Puppies are adopted under a desexing contract and must be desexed at 6 months of age) Microchipped C5 vaccinated Flea and worm treatments Adoption fees contribute to covering these veterinary services.
