Friends of the Animals Inc trading as Mareeba Animal Refuge has been rescuing cats and dogs from the Mareeba Shire, Tablelands, Cairns, Innisfail and all over the Cape since 2007. We take in owner surrenders, found, dumped and unwanted pets. We see countless litters of unwanted puppies and kittens. Animals arrive to our care in all sorts of conditions we do our absolute best to rehabilitate and provide the best care possible. We work closely with our local vet, council, businesses and community. We are open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, 8am to 4pm at 35 Hickling Avenue Mareeba.

Friends of the Animals Inc. Trading as Mareeba Animal Refuge Adoption Policy At Mareeba Animal Refuge, our goal is to match every animal with a safe, loving, and suitable forever home. The following process helps ensure the best outcomes for both pets and owners. 🐾 Step 1: Enquiry Interested in adopting? Same-day adoptions are available if a suitable match is found and pet has had vet work completed. When enquiring, please include: • The type of companion you’re looking for • Your living situation (homeowner, rental with approval, acreage, suburban, apartment, etc.) ⚠️ Important: We must confirm you can legally and practically keep a pet. Renters must provide landlord approval. 🐾 Step 2: Matching Process Our team will work with you to find the most suitable match based on your lifestyle and the animal’s personality, needs, and temperament. 🐾 Step 3: Adoption & Payment To finalise adoption, you will complete: • Purchase agreement • Microchip transfer • Desexing voucher (for puppies/kittens under 6 months) You’ll receive a folder with all medical records, including: ✔ Vaccination history ✔ Microchip details ✔ Desexing certificate or voucher ✔ Any additional health information 💰 Adoption Fees include desexing, microchipping, vaccination (C5/F3), parasite prevention, and veterinary care. 💳 Payment: Full payment required at adoption/start of trial (Cash or bank transfer only — no EFTPOS) 🐾 Step 4: Trial Period (Optional) We offer a 2-week trial period. If the adoption is not suitable, the animal must be returned and we will offer a full refund. 🐾 Step 5: After Adoption We will check in around the 3-month mark.
